LS18 ROCKS X THE HALLE

Students from LS18 Rocks joined forces with musicians from the world renowned Halle Orchestra to compose pieces that spread the message of climate change.

The musicians collaborated online and travelled across the Pennines to create the trio of songs, made with an exciting fusion of orchestral instruments and a full rock band.

The two musical genres combined to produce three pieces that were premiered at Leeds Town Hall in October 2021.

VIRTUAL HUGS

After the pandemic cancelled Christmas in 2020, students from LS18 Rocks produced the charity single ‘Virtual Hugs’, taking inspiration from the 1980s classic of ‘There’s No One Quite Like You Grandma’ as a gift to their grandparents.

The song become a collaboration between the kids at LS18, with many taking the chance to record parts on the song. Virtual Hugs became a hit and caught the attention of BBC Breakfast, BBC Look North, Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch and many national and international newspapers. The music video featured members of our music school and their grandparents singing along and we were able to raise over £1000 to support local projects supporting the elderly in our community.

BEA SCHIRMER "LS18 Rocks are the most talented and well prepared group of young people I have ever worked with. They have great song-writing skills and are already accomplished musicians."
